I haven’t even looked to see how long it has been since I last updated. I really like having a blog, and I am going to try to start updating more frequently again. My life has been a crazy, busy mess for the past few months. After a few months of being fairly slow at work and travelling a lot, I suddenly got crazy busy. However, this has been crazier than the last time I was busy at work, because I have an added dog and a new guy in my life. Last time I was completely single and dogless. Needless to say, SO BUSY.
Anyway, for now, I’m going to belatedly answer “Ten on Tuesday” questions because they are travel related, and I ❤ travel.
1. Favorite way to travel (plane, train, automobile, etc.)
It really depends on the distance and the reason for the trip. If it’s a short trip, or really far away (like east coast or a different continent), I prefer flying. But otherwise I LOVE roadtrips (most recent was Portland, OR to Denver, CO). I also enjoy trains to a certain degree (I loved the easy train ride from London to Paris, and trains throughout Switzerland).
2. Where’s your favorite place to travel to that you’ve been to?
Ireland, Switzerland, and France… all for different reasons. Ireland always jumps in my mind first, followed closely by the other two. Of the 3, I will most likely revisit Ireland before the other countries so I guess I should just say Ireland!
3. Where’s the place that you want to go but have never been?
Italy, Greece, Australia, New Zealand
4. Do you deal with traffic well?
It really depends. Since living in L.A., I have become much more tolerant of traffic than I used to be, because it’s a fact of every day life down here at pretty much all hours of the day. Sometimes I’m able to chill and just accept that traffic is traffic and I’ll get where I’m going eventually. Other times, I feel like I will lose my mind and drive off a cliff if I don’t find a way to exit the mess ASAP.
5. Ever had an emergency while traveling?
Once while at the beach I had to take a friend to the ER because he was convinced he had poisoness spider bites on his butt and that he was going to lose his butt if he didn’t get to a doctor and have it checked out pronto (not kidding). Turns out it was ingrown hairs… HILARIOUS!
6. Do you have a passport? What countries have you been to?
Countries I’ve been to: US, Mexico, Canada, England, Ireland (+ Northern Ireland), France, Holland, Belgium, Switzerland, Luxembourg, and Spain.
7. Are you’ve light packer or do you pack everything but the kitchen sink?
I’m somewhere in between. When I try to pack light I end up packing TOO light (ie not enough underwear or no long sleeves for a cold place). When I know it doesn’t matter if I pack light, I end up packing way too much and being annoyed that I have so much stuff. When I don’t really think about how much I should pack, I generally do a little better.
8. Do you take the fastest route or the road less traveled?
It depends on the point of the travel. But I am a pretty impatient person so fastest route is definitely my default.
9. Do any activities on the road? (like road games, reading, sleeping, etc. )
I take a lot of pictures while driving (and while being a passenger). That’s about it in terms of activities. I can’t read while in a car or I’ll get sick, and I generally can’t (and choose not to) sleep while in a car either. On a roadtrip from L.A. to Houston that took 26 hours, I didn’t sleep at all until like the last hour of the drive when we were sitting in traffic outside Katy, TX.
10. Use a paper map or GPS?
Definitely no paper maps for this girl. Although sometimes I’ll just have the names of freeways/streets and the direction I turn written down on a piece of paper and I won’t use any form of map. Most often though I have my iPhone in my lap….
